Responsible for the success of the Credit Union’s commercial
loan objectives, and for planning, organizing, and directing the
Credit Union's member business lending program. Areas of expertise
involve all facets of commercial lending, underwriting, portfolio
analysis, processing, servicing and collection of member business
loans. Ensures that lending operations are in accordance with
established policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Ensures
that lending activities result in maximum volume, appropriate profit
for the Credit Union, and a minimal delinquency ratio. Analyzes and
evaluates the effectiveness of member business lending operations.
Supervises and appraises the activities of subordinate staff and
ensures that all lending operations are professionally delivered and
members are well served.
Manages, develops and implements effective lending planning,
strategies and personnel as it pertains to member business loan origination.
Participates in developing lending policies and procedures and
ensures they complement organizational goals and are compliant
with regulatory standards.
Ensures the effective performance of lending related services.
Ensures that lending activities are conducted in accordance with
established policy guidelines and standards, and are properly documented.
Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies to ensure
effectiveness. Ensures that policies are updated and are in
accordance with evolving regulations, legal requirements, and
Monitors existing loan portfolio to maintain a high-quality asset
base. Maintains safe and sound lending practices which result in
acceptable delinquency ratios.
Maintains up-to-date client files including current balance
sheets, profit & loss statements, cash flow projections and
all loan documentation. Responsible for ongoing portfolio
management of relationships including identification and
documentation of problem loans, policy exceptions, grade changes,
annual reviews, watchlist reviews, and/or special reviews that may
be required. Ensure problem loans are closely tracked and
Makes credit decisions that exceed staff authority. Provides
subordinate officers with functional guidance. May also carry a portfolio.
Takes applications for commercial loan business. Reviews customer
financial condition and assesses the customer’s ability to repay
the loan. Makes underwriting decisions within the approval
authority or refers loan to loan committee for approval. Verifies
loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy.
Establishes the structure of the loan, including pricing terms
and duration in accordance with the customer relationship and
Assists in collection of past due loans. Maintains credit quality
to minimizes exceptions, and to prevent past dues and charge offs.
Participates in developing lending and deposit business for the
organization. Calls on clients to expand existing business; calls
on prospects seeking opportunities to expand the client base.
Represents the organization as appropriate in its relationships
with customers and business community, and civic organizations.
Responsible for ensuring that professional business relationships
are established and maintained with members, vendors, the business
community, and trade organizations.
Ensures that the Credit Union's professional reputation is
maintained throughout lending and business transactions with members.
Effectively evaluates, trains, supervises and directs department
personnel, ensuring optimal performance. Provides leadership to
assigned personnel through effective objective setting,
delegation, and communication. Conducts staff meetings as
required. Assigns, directs, and coordinates work.
Instructs personnel regarding policy, procedure, and program
changes and ensures that they are well informed regarding related
legal and regulatory developments.
Ensures that staffing levels are appropriate and human resources
are effectively utilized. Conducts interviews and assists with
hiring as needed. Conducts performance appraisals and salary
reviews as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions
Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable
laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank
Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business, or an
equivalent combination of formal training and experience. An MBA
or some type of banking graduate school is preferred, but not required.
Extensive knowledge of business loans, commercial real estate,
and construction lending practices and procedures. SBA experience
would also be helpful.
Thorough knowledge of Credit Union loan and deposit products and
applicable policies and standards.
Understanding of government regulations and legal requirements in
all facets of lending, collections, compliance, and related functions.
At least ten years of progressive commercial lending operations
and administration experience, specifically in loan origination,
analytics, support, processing, servicing and collections, within
a Credit Union or financial institution.
Five to ten years of managerial experience over numerous
departments supervising a large number of personnel.
Must have experience analyzing business financial statements and
assessing the viability of businesses.
Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
Must have excellent communication and PR skills & the ability
to work with a diverse group of customers and staff.
Good organizational, managerial, and problem-solving abilities.
A high level of analytical skills.
Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment.
